U9 Competitive Guidelines Update Released

Big Country Soccer Association (BCSA) is pleased to share that the U9 Competitive Guidelines (Rev. 02) have officially been updated and published for the 2026 outdoor season.

This update reflects our continued commitment to providing a safe, development-focused, and standardized competitive environment for our young athletes across the district.

Members can review the full guideline here: U9 Competitive Guidelines

What’s Changed?

The latest revision includes several important updates designed to improve alignment across our district and enhance the player experience:

1. Updated Field Dimensions & Layout

Field sizes have been adjusted to align more closely with U11 small-sided standards, creating a more consistent and developmentally appropriate environment across communities.

2. Number of Players on the Field

The number of players on the field has been updated to 7v7 (including the goalkeeper). This change reflects practical experience and alignment with how our teams compete against other districts.

3. Team Roster Sizes (Minimum & Maximum)

Clear parameters have been established for team composition:

  • Minimum: 7 players
  • Maximum: 12 players

This ensures consistency across teams while supporting both player development and game-day logistics.

A District Built by Its Members

BCSA would like to extend a sincere thank you to Justin Tersteeg, President of Didsbury Minor Soccer, for his contributions to the review and update of this guideline.

This collaboration is a strong example of what makes our district special.

BCSA is a member-driven district.
The continued growth and improvement of our programs depends on the engagement, feedback, and leadership of our member communities.

When members step forward to contribute—whether through feedback, working groups, or direct involvement—we collectively move the game forward for every player in Big Country.

Moving Forward

These updates are part of BCSA’s broader commitment to:

  • Align with Standards for Quality Soccer (SQS)
  • Support Long-Term Player Development (LTPD)
  • Provide clear, consistent structures for all member clubs

We encourage all clubs, coaches, and administrators to review the updated guideline and integrate these changes into their planning for the upcoming season.
